My Rooster

Oh my Rooster.... he's an easy one to write about. I dedicated a couple of posts a while back to the Gunman and the Bean- but I hadn't blogged about my Roost yet.

Rooster is a very particular child, even from birth.  My first experience with his personality in the whom was his hiccups at a very young age. I started feeling his hiccups about as early as they say you are able to. I knew what they were right away. Roost was also the first one I felt move. This happened as I was enjoying my Subway sandwich and driving down Buffalo and Lake Mead Pkwy, while talking to my mom on the phone. Don't know why I remember where I was, but I do :) I felt this funny jab on my left side at about 16 weeks. Usually they say you can't feel your first baby (or babies in my case, because Roost is a twin) until about 18-20 weeks. They also say usually it feels like a "flutter" or gas bubbles. Nope, not Roost. He was a definite jab on my left side. And it was always very distinct. Roost was Baby A and the most well behaved of the two. He did the correct thing and was head down the entire pregnancy- every ultrasound, every week. I'm sure he must have flipped and flopped, but sure enough, when caught on camera he was always doing the right thing. This would be Roost in general. Never wants to get caught messing up, very embarrassed if he does the wrong thing and gets in trouble. Something else funny about him in the whom- he used to hate all the testing and cords and monitors they would put on my belly the last few weeks of the pregnancy. They would belt these contraptions on to record the twins movement and Rooster hated them! He would zoom around and you could see his little limbs kick and contort my tummy. An elbow here, a foot there- it was wild and almost disgusting to watch. But we got through it and Rooster, being Baby A, was delivered first. He was the first baby cry that I heard. All-be-it that it sounded a little famine and girly, he received the nickname “Nancy”.  Now when he does something I can make fun of him for, I call him Nancy and he comes to try and tackle me:)

Roost is very competitive but a little shy about it. During his kindergarten year he would always try to be "the toughest kid on the playground" by refusing to wear a sweatshirt when it was cold. His other goal was to be "the fastest kid on the playground".  He loves playing with kids older than his age and his favorites are Jake and Morgan and his cousin Ally.  He loves racing BMX, playing football

My Roost’s little quirks never stop.  As a baby he couldn’t stand having dirty hands and he would bring them to me to clean them for him.  If he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt there was no way you could set this kid down on the grass without a blanket.  He would try lifting up his arms and legs at the same time to avoid the poky grass. He is left handed, jammies have always been sacred to him and he loves wearing them anytime he can. He loves sharks, dinosaurs, watching any animal show, especially Wild Kratts, riding bikes with friends and playing endlessly with his Nascar toy cars on the end table.  He loves being organized with them and keeping them in straight little lines.  He is elated when he comes home and sees I’ve organized his toys.

Rooster pouting because the one thing G'ma Jo forgot was the Treasure Box treats:) It was the ONLY thing she got wrong though
An organized and stocked pantry are also essential to him.  He gets after me if I don’t keep enough groceries around.  He loves volunteering me to bring Capri Suns to school at a moment’s notice.  For foods he loves eating chicken salad sandwiches, chicken nuggets with Panda Express Orange Chicken sauce and making muffins together. He adores eating chips and salsa with his dad, strawberry nesquick (it used to be chocolate flavor but he switched on me), and tapioca pudding, but only the Harry’s brand from Costco.

He is always a little do gooder.  When he does something wrong lately and I correct him he says “I know!” Drives this mother crazy! Must be a first grade thing.  My very social child always wants to have friends over everyday.  If we aren’t having friends over, we want to be invited to someone’s house to play.  He loves to go four wheeling as a family and bring friends.  He also loves going to the cabin and boating and adores when we invite other families with us.

Interesting fact, he’s actually quite a good little dancer.  He does the Zumbatomic academy at school and learns zumba moves once a week during a portion of the year.  He’s very shy about his dancing skills.  This shyness always sneaks up and surprises me.  It sounds like he’s pretty competitive in his little learning groups at school.  If we could get over this shyness I think he would be a really good leader.

My Roost is also very good and patient with his brother the Bean.  He plays really well with him and is my right hand man.  I can tell him to go do something and I know it will get done.    He used to say he wanted to be a NASCAR Driver then it was a football player. Today when I asked, it was a combination of a Nascar driver and a dirt bike racer.  Go figure.  Pretty sure he doesn’t want to be a reading teacher, sorry Mom! This kid is tough to get to read and do homework sometimes! When he does his homework and works hard, he gets great grades.  He’s very good at math.

He also loves watching hunting shows with his dad before bed and asks every night to read the scriptures to him. One of his favorite things is to have popcorn and watch a kids movie with me on the couch. He asks for it all the time and I feel so lucky.  He loves watching his favorite little tv shows and he’s always so good to never watch anything questionable (e.g Spongebob).   He does the right thing even when no one’s looking and I’m so proud of his integrity.  He’s my good little Rooster.

  1. He's Grandma's favorite Rooster ever. I'm so glad to have him as my first grand child. I love you, Roost. I'm very proud of you.
